  • Question: What were your thoughts about the September 11th catastrophy? What concerns immediately came to the forefront of your mind? (Sample answers below)
    _____________________

  • As a travel agent, watching it on TV was terrible and I knew the industry would suffer greatly from it. Ater finding out my brother was killed in the World Trade Center it made me extremely mad. (Note from Editor: Our hearts and prayers go out to you, your brother, and your families.)
  • First thought was shock and disbelief. Then so much saddness and depression. Then anger - The immediate concern for life in general - things will never ever be the same.
  • Immediate concern was, of course, how it was accomplished. It is both an immediate aviation safety issue but also more broad. Do we just live with the threat of terrorism? Is there something we can do to minimize attacks and not just those on a handful of flights?
  • That the terrorists are among us and we can't do much to stop them.
  • We have been pushed into the realization that we are at risk just as the rest of the world. We are vulnerable to attacks by those who hate us. Why are we hated and what can we do to counteract the hatred?
  • Why did they take Sky Marshal's off the airlines?
  • Question: What situations have you witnessed that show either bad or good security procedures at airports?
    _________________________

  • Security Personnel not paying attention to the xray machines.
  • Went through three airports before my umbrella was seized.
  • At Boston Logan, security was taking away cigarette lighters.
  • Employees in uniforms or with badges circumvent the security screening.
  • Friends tell me that they did not catch some articles that should have been taken.
  • Random baggage search, the alarm going off more during the walk through security.
  • Went through three flights on a round trip where I had to take off my shoes and open up my laptop. Before the fourth flight, the security guards ignored both shoes and laptop, but made a huge deal of removing all objects from my toiletry case until a pair of nailclippers that were spotted on the xray were removed.
  • Security lines were extra long at some airports, and, thankfully non-existant at others.
  • In one case, the security team went on a shift change, leaving 1 of 3 xray machines down. That happened to be the one with my bags IN IT! It took an extra 10 minutes until a replacement could be found who would let my bags come through the machine.
